New Zealand “Pāua” is the Māori name given to ‘Abalone’ in the USA and ‘Ormer’ in the UK.  In Māori culture it is considered a sacred symbol of the sea and is believed to bring guidance and calm emotions. Pāua shell can help strengthen love within relationships and foster interpersonal harmony.  Nicknamed ‘the opal of the ocean’ for its’ amazing colours, pāua is a valued resource for traditional practices and arts & crafts.  Pāua shell is believed to cleanse & balance the aura, soothe the nervous system, and bring peace, connection & emotional balance.

Our Pāua shells are sustainably sourced and supplied to us by fully licensed free divers off the coast of the South Island in New Zealand. The shell meat is eaten & exported around the world, and the shells are then cleaned and polished by hand revealing their beautiful colours. The shell is sealed with a clear lacquer to enhance and protect it.

As each shell is uniquely beautiful in pattern and colour, they will slightly vary from one another.
